CSEP Health & Fitness Program (H&FP)

The CSEP Health and Fitness Program: 

  • Protects consumers by regulating standards for physical activity, fitness and lifestyle appraisal personnel and centres.
  • Gives appropriate recognition to physical activity, fitness and lifestyle appraisal personnel with advanced qualifications in the field of exercise science.
  • Promotes a professional and ethical approach in the physical activity, fitness and lifestyle appraisal industry.
Mission Statement:

"To ensure that quality fitness practices and physical activity counselling services are available to assist in the promotion of an active lifestyle for all Canadians."

 

Program Components:

The  CSEP Health and Fitness Program was established by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) in 1981 to address certain needs and concerns of personnel working in the physical activity, fitness and lifestyle appraisal industry. Currently the CSEP H&FP has the highest standards in the Canadian industry for fitness professionals.

The CSEP-Health & Fitness Program has two levels of certifications based on a candidate's academic background and work experience in the field and subject matter. Level 1 is introductory and Level 2 is our advanced level and requires a university degree.

Level 1: CSEP Certified Personal Trainer® (CSEP CPT)

Level 2: CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist® (CSEP CEP)

Candidates must complete a 4-year university degree in Kinesiology/Human Kinetics/Health Science to be eligible for CSEP CEP certification. This professional certification is for Kinesiologists who wish to SPECIALIZE in the health, fitness and rehabilitation industry.
