CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist® (CSEP CEP)

"The most advanced certification in the health & fitness industry!"

Objective

The objective of the CSEP CEP certification is to recognize the qualifications of those persons who possess advanced formal academic preparation (i.e., university degreed only) and practical experience in both health-related and performance-related physical activity/exercise science fitness applications for non-clinical and clinical populations.

Description

The CSEP CEP performs assessments/evaluations, prescribes conditioning exercise, provides exercise supervision/monitoring, counselling, healthy lifestyle education, and outcome evaluation for “apparently healthy” individuals and/or populations with medical conditions, functional limitations or disabilities through the application of physical activity/exercise, for the purpose of improving health, function and work or sport performance.

Certification Requirements

Eligible CSEP CEP candidates come from one of two pools: Category A or Category B

Category A:

Individuals in this category will have completed a four year degree in Physical Activity/Exercise Sciences/Kinesiology/Human Kinetics, with a specialization in health-related fitness plus work and sport-related fitness applications for asymptomatic and symptomatic populations.

CSEP CEP Category A prerequisites

For national examination dates please contact one of our CSEP provincial H&FP offices in your area
and/or go to the CEP exam site dates section of this web site.

Category B:

For allied health professionals (such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, physicians and chiropractors) whose undergraduate degrees were in Kinesiology/Exercise Science.

CSEP CEP Category B prerequisites

CSEP CEPs must attain a minumum number of Professional Development Credits (PDCs) over a two-year period to maintain their certification status. Download chart (pdf).

 

Note: The CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist is a Registered Certification Mark with Industry Canada.
